I don’t believe it.
This game is beyond what I expected. Holy sh-
(I totally dig the 2nd opening)
Some Rubbish Infomation
Company = 暁WORKS
Scenario = 日野亘 (Ruitomo, Hanafubuki), 衆堂ジョオ (Ruitomo)
Artist = さえき北都 (Ruitomo, Shin koihime), 村瀬倫太郎（アバター） (avatar drawings)
Genre = Dark fantasy action romance
What’s so special = Gripping plot, very unique characters, blow-your-mind ending, totally loli character, a pretty big cast
Oh my. I haven’t played an eroge close to this amount of epicness for a long time. I personally prefer this to Ruitomo as it has a slightly darker theme, which I’m kinda fond of. Not many can pull off something like this.
Unfortunately, this story doesn’t start the normal way (as time travels linearly and not all about the timeline). But I’ll do it normally, so there is a possibility that it’s may contain some slight spoilers. So don’t kill me when I write something you didn’t want to see.
You start off as Akihito, a normal dude (and a huge feminist) who…. well lives his life pretty much normally. Goes to school, made fun of by his childhood friend (ok maybe this ain’t normal) and skips classes periodically.
But there is something that sets him aparts from the rest.
Shoujo A (Girl A). A mysterious singing girl who only a few “chosen” ones can see. She sits, alone singing forever.
But one night. Everything changed. He heard Shoujo A calling him. To the top of a rooftop.
There, he meets 4 people. 4 strangers to be exact. All of different personalities and age.
Then, something happened. Shoujo A appeared, looking down on them.
Together with her, “it” appeared. A giant monster that’s over 3 meters high. What’s more, it’s obvious that it’s motive is to kill them.
Being the feminist he is, he throws the loli back straight to the other stranger and stands in front of them, blocking the path. The monster looks down on him, emotionless. Just as he gave up all hope on living as the monster’s hand descended. But, something blocked the blow.
Standing behind him, was a huge black dragon.
Yes, I’m evil to end it here. So go play the game >_>;
First things first. The story. If you’ve played Ruitomo and know how it’s like, Comyu is like 4-5 times darker in theme. By that, I mean they don’t mind showing death, the darkness of the human heart and downright betrayal. It’s that kinda eroge.
The whole idea of strangers meeting up and fighting together though, is definitely way too close to what Ruitomo is. Which would be the main turnoff if you’ve played Ruitomo since you get this sense of déjà vu when playing. Isn’t exactly a good thing. I hope they’ll break away from this chain on their next work.
It sits on quite a heavy fantastical setting too. The city itself is a normal city, but the whole idea of Avatars (The monsters) is the focus of this eroge. That’s why after some time, it’s pretty obvious that the plot contains more of them than the city itself. What’s more, they invented an entire system for Comyus and Avatars which is just…. wow. Wonder if they understand the term overwork >_>
You can totally feel the dark aura from the city. The entire setting feels dark. They love night scenes for fighting too. So you’ll be seeing lots of dark bluey shots.
Also, there are quite a few battle scenes in this story. Not an overwhelming number, but they’re long and action packed enough to leave quite a deep impression.
What’s most important though is Kagome’s route. Her route can only be unlocked after everyone else’s is done and is what you call the True Route. There, with the usual Akatsuki style, a jawdropping bombshell is thrown to your face and explodes.
One of the surprises in this eroge is that there are some routes that were for really unexpected characters. It flows well, so no problems there but it’s something different from the rest I guess.
I still have my questions about why there’s an Ayaya route though. Is there a need for such a short and unenlightening route >_>;
But of course, because of all the unique characters that are practically overflowing throughout the story, there is a lot of humor. I can’t count the amount of times Kagome made fun of Akihito.
All in all, it’s has a really solid plot which is very much worth reading. Really rewarding if you play right till the end as well. Damned it’s awesome.
瑞和 暁人 (Mizuwa Akihito)
Protag. He’s pretty much normal on the outside but he shows a lonely expression from time to time. Works in a bar called [Izaron]. Bullied quite a lot by everyone because he looks like a cool guy but is actually too kind. To girls at least. Calls himself a feminist, which is practically true since he always helps girls even if they’re strangers. Considered the leader of the Comyu who controls the black dragon [Babylon]. He’s usually more of a lighthearted character who uses retorts and acts somewhat like an idiot. Has a dark event in his past (who doesn’t). For some reason, he’s Kagome’s childhood friend.
He’s a pretty cool guy for a protag. In a lot of ways.
比奈織 カゴメ (Hinaori Kagome)
Akihito’s childhood friend and self proclaimed partner. People call her the black witch because she’s a genius and doesn’t act like a normal person. She’s also selfish and does what she wants. She throws sarcasm and scorn towards everyone, especially Akihito. She lives two apartments away from Akihito and goes to his house through the window. Has a habit of just wearing a shirt when in the house. Cooks Akihito’s breakfast too. She takes on an observer role when it comes to Akihito’s comyu, since she’s not a part of it. Also, she’s undefeatable in battle. Even Izawa can’t win her.
Be warned that her dere dere mode may lead to nosebleeds
竹河 紅緒 (Takekawa Benio)
She’s a part of Akihito’s comyu unit. A normal school girl in an all girls school. She’s extremely pure, so whenever she hears all the ecchi jokes she blushes and goes totally haywire. She loves the idea of justice too. So much that you could call her the 2nd Shiro. Shiro girl version hmmm. Anyway, she’s pretty good at cooking and cleaning. Loves cute things, therefore that includes Mayuki. She also has an eternal diet plan, but that doesn’t work very well.
She’s likable though, since she’s quite an idiot =D
柚花 真雪 (Yuubana Mayuki)
She’s the youngest in the comyu unit. Always seen with her weird cap and glasses, she’s the ultimate loli in this game who sprouts lies without a second thought. She’s also a very hardcore otaku. Also like events that are out of the ordinary. She has a mysterious part time job that takes up a lot of her time. Takes the taxi a lot too. Akihito and the lot likes calling her MayuMayu but she doesn’t like that very much.
I’ve gotta be honest. That cap is disturbing.
春日部 春 (Kasukabe Haru)
Another member in Akihito’s comyu unit. The ero ero maid. She’s the ultimate my pace woman who wears a maid uniform wherever she goes. She sleeps with a lot of different people and her aim is just to… enjoy life. What’s worse, she doesn’t really mind if it’s a guy or a girl, as long as she likes him/her… Also the holder of one of the biggest boobs in game. Surprisingly, Haru doesn’t have a route. Though I didn’t say anything about her not having H scenes.
Let’s just say that this girl wasn’t the only victim
伊沢 萩 (Izawa Shyuu)
Izawa is the last of Akihito’s comyu unit. He’s a Yakuza, a small one. He’s more of a realist, as he’s seen and done it all. Killing, fighting and stuff like that. He’s a genius when it comes to fighting, so when it comes to Babylon, he’s a great controller and fights very well. His personality doesn’t go very well with Akihito’s. As he’s short for a guy and has a girlish hairstyle, people mistake him for a girl. Which makes him mad. Also a siscon.
副島 密 (Soejima Hisoka)
The mysterious and silent transfer student. She looks at the sky a lot. For some reason, she clicks well with Akihito. But she seems emotionless sometimes. Akihito spotted her during midnight in the dark part of the city once. She has a route. A pretty interesting one.
She’s more of a cool character
阿弥 谷縁 (Ayaya Enishi)
A junior studying in the same school as Akihito is. She’s the kind of bright and funny character that makes everyone smile. When she meets with something troubling she’ll go Ayayayaya. She’s well liked by everyone. Somewhat dumb, but because of that she’s cute. It’s obvious that she’s appealing herself to Akihito a lot, but for now Akihito just treats her like a normal girl. Also, for some reason, she has a route.
That really makes me smile
Unfortunately, there’s quite a big cast of characters and I got bored. Go to the website if you want more info.
Anyone who played Akatsuki eroges before should be familiar with this format. Character cg changes if you move in and out of menus, so does backgrounds. What I don’t understand is why they moved the menus after you finish the game. It may be because to not block the CG, but it’s kinda retarded to move the menu to the middle of the screen.
The usual config. There’s also this really funny option that pops up after Mayuki’s route allowing you to tweak her glasses’s transparency.
Text box is nothing too special. Design is pretty nice but that’s just about it.
The save/load screen. Nothing too special except for WHY THE F IS THERE SO MANY SAVE SLOTS. There wasn’t a lot of choices in the game <_<;
This, would be the most interesting part of the system. This is the scenario select menu where you can choose what part of the chapter you can go back to. Yes that means you can jump around the story as long as you’ve read it. It also shows what you have not read or sometimes, when a choice is available after you complete a route. It’s really handy to have, though even if you meet a bad end there’ll be an option to restart so that shouldn’t be any problem.
CG and Animation
For some reason, I really like the art. The colors really fit into the entire theme. It also has this…. feel to it that I have no idea how to explain but it’s a style that’s unique and comfortable in a way. Proportions were close to perfect.
Avatar design was done by another guy so I thought I’ll touch up there. The designs for the avatars were ingenious. All of them has their own distinct look and the amount of detail is phenomenal. The whole look of Babylon really defines the whole feel of the game.
The soundtrack is excellent. It has the exact feel of a particular place. Not to mention I like Ryuutachi no Yume.
What surprised me too, was that there are a lot of sound effects. Babylon’s roar, explosions and stuff like that. They appear at the appropriate times and add to the entire atmosphere of the game. Just wonderful.
There are quite a lot of H scenes in the eroge. Surprisingly, there are quite a few sub character H scenes. Which mean if you go towards a girl’s route, it may have other side character H scenes in that route. From what I counted there are 16 H scenes in the eroge in total.
Unfortunately I can’t really say there’s a story to most of them. Some has sorta a slight sort of story, but the others were mostly…
Still, voice acting is excellent, though I still feel Mayuki is underage. No matter who tells me. It’s just… wrong.
So should you play comyu?
Don’t ask questions. Play it. Unless you hated Ruitomo. It has quite a unique story and a really likable cast. Be ready to stomach a dark story though. This would definitely be worth anyone’s time. Now I’m just wondering if Muramusa would be able to topple this…
